What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a type of clear orthodontic aligner used to straighten teeth. It is nearly invisible when worn, hence its name. Invisalign is an alternative to metal braces for adults and teens who are looking to improve their smile without the visibility of metal brackets and wires. The clear aligners are made of medical-grade solid plastic that is virtually invisible when worn and are custom-made for each patient using digital imaging technology. The aligners are changed every week, depending on our recommendation, and each new set moves the teeth slightly until they are in the desired position. Invisalign treatment is typically a shorter timeframe than that of braces, depending on the individual case. Talk to Dr. Matt at Vivid Orthodontics about whether Invisalign is right for you or your teen.

The Invisalign Process

The Invisalign process begins with a consult with Dr. Matt, who will determine if you are a candidate for the clear aligners. If you are a candidate, the next step is to have digital scans taken of your teeth. With the iTero digital scanner, our team can take highly accurate digital scans of your teeth, which will be used to create your customized treatment plan. Once your treatment plan is created, you will receive your first set of aligners. Before proceeding to the following stage in the series, you will wear each pair of aligners for approximately one week, depending on Dr. Matt’s recommendation. Your teeth will progressively move into their final places as you complete treatment. Contact our team at Vivid Orthodontics today to learn more about the Invisalign process and schedule an appointment for a consultation.

Benefits Of Invisalign

When it comes to straightening your teeth, you have a few options. Invisalign, which employs transparent aligners to progressively move your teeth into place, is an alternative to the conventional approach of metal braces. A few key benefits make Invisalign an excellent choice for adults and teens who want to perfect their smiles.

Virtually Invisible

If you’re concerned about how metal braces might affect your appearance, Invisalign is a great alternative because it’s virtually invisible. The clear aligners are made from a medical-grade plastic that’s nearly indistinguishable from your natural teeth. This makes Invisalign ideal for those who want to straighten their teeth without drawing unwanted attention to their treatment.

Comfortable

Another advantage of Invisalign over traditional braces is that they’re much more comfortable to wear. Metal braces can irritate and inflame the inside of your mouth by rubbing against it. They can also make it difficult to eat certain foods because of the wires and brackets. With Invisalign, there are no wires or brackets, so you can eat whatever you want without having to worry about damaging your aligners or irritating your gums.

Better For Your Oral Health

Because Invisalign trays are removable, they also promote better oral health overall. As a result of the difficulty of brushing and flossing around traditional braces, cavities and gum disease may become more prevalent. However, because you can remove your Invisalign trays when brushing and flossing, you can be sure that your teeth and gums are getting the clean they need—and deserve!—to stay healthy and strong.
